Iván Hernández Vásquez

Iván Hernández Vásquez is a young environmentalist who graduated as a telecommunications technician and an information and communications technology operator from the Instituto Nacional de Aprendizaje (INA), with studies in Computer Engineering at the Universidad Estatal a Distancia (UNED). Iván is a native Spanish speaker, and an English speaker. At 22 years old, Iván is an active member of the Alexander Skutch Brigade, a youth group committed to environmental conservation of the Alexander Skutch Biological Corridor in Pérez Zeledón, Costa Rica. The brigade is dedicated to citizen environmental education, the monitoring of mammals with the use of camera traps, and the observation and recording of birds in forests and protected areas of the corridor, as well as the monitoring of water resources. Iván is also an enthusiastic participant of recycling campaigns.

Although his academic training is focused on technology, Iván uses his knowledge to support the protection of biodiversity, disseminating educational information through social networks and digital tools alongside the brigade.

He firmly believes in the ability of any person to contribute to the care of the environment and is dedicated to sharing his knowledge and passion with children, young people and adults, to promote a culture of respect and protection towards nature.
