The Accompong Maroon Memory Bank:
A Virtual Tour
The Accompong Maroons Culture Camp and Memory Bank is an initiative by the Accompong Maroon Youth Culture Group (AMYCG) in Accompong, Jamaica, funded by the Education, Justice and Memory Network (EdJAM) with supporting partnership from the Young Lives Research Lab. The project was designed to create further opportunities for the Maroons of Accompong Jamaica to preserve, celebrate and share their rich history and culture through an annual Culture Camp, after school traditional programming such as drumming and dancing, and through the curation of a Memory Bank to house historic artifacts, stories, photos, videos and knowledge. Learn more about the project, here on the EdJAM project site, and here on blogJAM.
The AMYCG has created a digital tour of the Memory Bank so their history and culture can be shared widely beyond their community as a teaching, learning and engagement tool.
